WAIT UP
1. to stay late out of bed to wait someone’s arrival [esperar acordado alguém voltar para casa ]
  • “Please don’t wait up for me tonight. I might come back very late”, Audrey told her mother before going out.
  • “Por favor, não me espere acordada hoje à noite. Eu talvez volte muito tarde”, Audrey disse à mãe antes de sair.
2. (informal) to wait [esperar]
  • “Wait up, I still need to talk to you about something else”, Dick told Ray as he stood up from his armchair to leave the room.
  • “Espere aí, eu ainda preciso falar com você sobre outra coisa”, Dick disse a Ray quando este se levantou da poltrona para sair da sala
