Present Perfect – simple past 

No inglês americano, tanto o present perfect quanto o simple past são usados para relatar algo que tem efeitos no presente. O simple past é freqüentemente usado com just, already,yet, ever e before.

• (AmE): Sonia just phoned.
• (BrE): Sonia has just phoned.
• (AmE): Did Tom come home yet?
• (BrE): Has Tom come home yet?
• (AmE): Bill broke his leg, so he can’t drive us.
• (BrE): Bill has broken his leg, so he can’t drive us.

O artigo definido the 

University e hospital são usados com the no inglês americano, mesmo quando se fala da função e da freqüência (usuários) da instituição.

• (AmE): My father was in the hospital for two weeks last year.
• (BrE): My father was in hospital for two weeks last year.

Nomes próprios de pontes (americanas) vêm com the no inglês americano.

• (AmE): This is a photo of the Brooklyn Bridge.
• (BrE): This is a photo of London Bridge.

No caso de instrumentos musicais, o artigo é às vezes omitido.

• (AmE): Don plays piano.
• (BrE): Don plays the piano.

No inglês americano, o particípio do verbo get é gotten.

• (AmE): He‘s gotten much fatter since I last saw him.
• (BrE): He‘s got much fatter since I last saw him.
